What landscape design software should I try/buy

I am looking for landscape design software that will allow me to easily build mid-size environments (e.g. neighborhood, city block, housing development). Recommendations please? Thanks a lot!

Have you tried Google sketchup? It’s easy to handle and has a lot of free downloadable elements (trees, bushes)
