Time Warner cable clean-up

Thanks folks – I’ll give this another try and let you know how it turns out. I’ll also give the Public Service Commission a try.

The cable company has a rats nest of wires up on my roof, including cables that drape over my rear gutter. I’m concerned that the cable could eventually cause issues for the gutter, and I’m not a fan of the piled up mess of cables on the roof that could trap rotting material and cause degradation of the roof. My problem? I can’t figure out who to call, and the folks at the cable company are pretty much non-responsive. There is no way the cables are “to-code”, although I have come to understand that getting the cable company to fix something to code is a long shot at best. I don’t have a problem with them using my roof to run cable – but I’d like it to be done safely so that my property isn’t at risk. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to cut through the fat? Any pressure points to go for? Short of going upstairs and slicing the cables and forcing them to send an engineer to respond to all my angry neighbors whose cable goes out, I’m at a loss!

Why not phone Time Water and give them a deadline after which you’ll cut and remove the cables?

These cable on the facade of buildings is an epidemic that is destroying the beauty of brownstone Brooklyn. Cables are damaging roofs, cornice, walls, lintels, sills and windows. Building Owners must hold these cable companies and their subcontractors accountable for not place cable on street facades of our homes. This goes the same for satellite dish.

Also you can prune the tangled mess yourself by first removing all the dead ends then follow remaining lines to neighboring buildings.

I’m renovating my backyard and literally just dealt with this issue this past week. It was actually easy as pie. I called both time warner and verizon (I’m not even a verizon customer) and said “I own the building and there is a huge mess of wires, I’d like someone to come by and look at whats going on”. Both companies sent folks out for a “site survey” within 3 days and both surveyors actually ended up cleaning up the mess that same day – Time Warner came back later that afternoon with 2 other guys and spent about 2 hours cleaning everything, Verizon had less to do once the Time Warner guys were done. Anyway, it was the most responsive Time Warner has ever been and the guys were great….maybe just try calling back in to customer service until someone is willing to give you an appointment? Like i said – it was completely painless on my end.

,Are cables companies considered public utlities? I didn’t thank so, since they can choose who they will, or will not, serve.

the public service commission does not deal with cable companies like bob said. there’s a department within the city called Information Technology and Communications that you need to submit a paper complaint form to. don’t waste your energy calling TWC just got directly to ITT through 311 and tell them you’ve complained to TWC several times and no action has been made. you should also write a letter to TWC’s customer service dept. phone calls to TWC won’t get anything done.

i had a similar issue where verizon and time warner were pointing the finger at each other. i didn’t have the time or patience, so i contact the the city for the cable company and the PSC for verizon. it was quickly resolved and i even got follow up calls asking if i was satisfied with the work.
