Seeking Painter for Ceramic Fireplace
My new home features a very large and ugly non-functioning gas fireplace. The surround tile is ceramic or enamel, I’m not sure. It’s dark brown with a hint of wine color perhaps. The fire place features metal ornamentation – possibly brass? The overall effect is medieval, light devouring, and just plain awful. At some point we will deal with this more permanently but for the short run we’re hoping it can be painted. Any recommendations for professional painter who can handle this type of project would be appreciated. The attached photo is actually from a several years old real estate listing but its the best I can find now

The concern about ceramic is that if the texture is glossy and smooth, the primer won’t adhere well enough. The heat would be an entirely separate issue, so at least that’s one down and only one to deal with. Yeah, even though we have more fun with creative surfaces, part of our expertise that sets us apart from ordinary painters is that we can come up with the best possible solution on just about any surface….even if it’s neutralizing. I’ll have Emilia give you a shout. Thanks, Phyllis

Thanks so much for responding. The fireplace is non-functioning – do you still worry about the durability of paint? I should point out that we actually want this thing neutralized completely, not embellished or “salvaged” – for lack of a better word. If we had the budget, we’d rip it out, make it smaller and more neutral/barely there. I feel from looking at your websight that your projects have a different focus, aesthetic, energy. Am I mistaken? I’m certainly open to having you take a look if interested. Dave 917-796-1588

It sounds like a fun job for us to do, but I worry that the paint wouldn’t last too long on that ceramic no matter what kind of primer and high heat materials we choose. You say it’s temporary. We did a tile backsplash in my own house about 8 years ago that’s starting to look crummy. That’s water damage. It may be worth it too have a look at your fireplace! We do specialty techniques and finishes. We’re not straight up painters: http://reclaimedhome.com/services/
