Roofing Help!

Hi Brownstoners, We are about to embark on a renovation adventure in Gowanus and I’m sure this will be the beginning of many quests for help from you all. The roof is dunzo (ie needs to be replaced) and I know there are some great new materials/installation types as well as roofers out there to install them. Don´t forget to put a layer of PolyIso or better Roxul TopRock unter your membrane. Your ceating/cooling cost will go down significantly.

Hi M, After extensive research online I hired Roof Mavens Construction to install SOPREMA® ALSAN for my **Brownstone flat roof**. It’s a polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) cold, liquid-applied roofing system. Liquid-applied membrane systems are a fully reinforced waterproofing system. PMMA molecules are hydrophobic, which means that the roofing membrane repels water droplets. This makes PMMA particularly suitable for roofs where ponding water would otherwise be a problem. Many brownstone flat or near-flat roofs allow water to stand on the surface for long periods of time. Standing water causes accelerated aging and damage of existing roofing membranes. I found the following video helped me solidify my decision: http://youtu.be/GeWJH7OBE_M It’s truly amazing how this system is applied and how durable it is – I had never seen or heard of this process before as it’s mostly used in Europe. As mentioned before the company I used was Roof Mavens (RM), they explained everything to me and made sure I was well aware of ALL systems available including the cheaper SBS system which is what I already had. Needless to say I am now fairly educated on brownstone flat roofing systems due partly to their expertise and my own research prior to contacting Roof Mavens.
