Need repair work for our crown molding on brownstone facade

I think it’s called the crown on a brownstone – it’s the decorative molding piece right under the roof.  A squirrel somehow found its way into the ceiling/roof and then chewed and dug itself out through the crown and now we have two holes there.  We can’t afford to replace the crown.  Any recommendations?  Thanks.

Anyway scaffolding is needed to do the job.If you want to replace new molding that will be expensive than repair or patch.To replace its need to take off old molding and take a part to the factory to make same molding.brownstone cornice molding is not so available at store.depends on the hole if it is small it could patch and paint.YOu may call M.Hamid Construction CO at 718-633-1500.Special Riggers licensed and insured.

Hi Stonergut – can you recommend the person who worked with you to get the metal patch work on the cornice?  We’ve been asking around too, but haven’t settled on anyone yet to do the job.  Also, did you have to bring in scaffolding?  Thanks!!

We have a small spot on our cornice that was repaired with tin (or some flexible metal) as a patch. From street level, you can make it out if you have binoculars and the sun is just right. Otherwise, it’s pretty nearly invisible. I’ll bet some intrepid painter could patch this up for you, unless it’s huge.

Uh oh! Start with an exterminator. Ed at Empire Pest Control is good 718-237-0989\. He works with a contractor who will patch up the roof hole. If you need someone fancier to do more cosmetic work on the cornice, I’m not sure who to call (someone who does exterior work) but just FYI it’s quite easy and not all that expensive to reproduce cornices using resin in a mold. (Of course you need something to make the mold.) Or you can buy off the shelf resin cornices. Nobody can tell they’re not wood if they’re painted.
