Lobby doors: open swinging in or outward?

We haven’t been able to find the answer on the various nyc gov sites. For a coop, class D4 Elevator building, we are installing new front doors, one interior and one exterior. Any lead on whether there is a legal requirement for them to both open the same way, and is that in- or outward? Any requirement at all? Thanks for any leads.

maybe I should not be commenting here as I am not bringing the right knowledge to the table and I do not know what a class D4 is, but I will say this: I have worked in commercial buildings and all of them have had doors which open out. I have worked in three or four big coops (more than say a dozen units) and all of their doors open out – both the outer set and the vestibule doors. I am not sure if I should assume that you do not know why outward is preferred so I will say it here: In the event of a fire and two dozen people rush up against those doors to get out, we want the person in the front to be able to push the doors open as opposed to have to back up against a crowd of people to open them inward. that is the logic as I understood it during fire safety director training for commercial real estate. I imagine the same applies to residential buildings with many units. Single family and smaller multi family seem to be excluded. Steve
