lead detection and inspection

Hi – eager to have my house tested for lead levels and was wondering if anyone has used one of the numerous companies who provide inspections and analysis and was happy with them. Also, any idea on costs for this? Thanks

@livingthedream, did your testing and abatement deal with only paint and the soil or did you find lead elsewhere? We just started with the tests I mentioned above but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was just the tip of the iceberg. I’d be curious to learn more about your remediation.

Call Luke from Brooklyn Lead. We started with a home test and knew that lead was present. We thought we were being careful until our daughter’s blood test revealed a level of 19 (the legal limit is 5). We called Luke and he walked us through everything. Taking samples is extremely useful because you can see exactly how high the levels are and in what area. We did 10 samples throughout the house and a soil sample and that revealed the overall condition and the hot spots. Luke recommended a very thorough remediation company that was far less expensive than other options. After remediation and following Luke’s recommendations our levels have remained near 0\. As for cost, if I recall the initial meeting plus testing was in the $500-$600 range. Well worth it. Remediation varies depending on what you find. Ours was in the $2000 range.

If you’re curious about paint, you can buy a test kit online; to test the water, you can request a kit from the city for free.

since nobody has responded I will say it here: just assume that you have lead paint in your house. that is what we did with ours. I did buy some of those test kits from either HD or one of the paint stores and they all turned dark pink pretty quick, only confirming what we knew. why spend the money? Steve
