Douglas Fir Floor refinishing

I have Douglas Fir floors throughout my home. Many of which were covered by tiles, linoleum or carpeting. I would like to refinish them and bring out their natural color which appears to be a dark brown with reddish tinge. Some have the glue, other just have staples. Any words of warning?
