Double pane window condensation
Anyone have any experience with removing condensation from between the two panes of double pane windows? We have a number of windows that have broken seals, and rather than go to the expense of replacing them, we’re wondering if there’s another way to go about it.

Of course you can go to an expert like the Modern Glass designs. They will tell you what you need to know and help you. Get to them at www.modernglassdesigns.com.

double pane is not as expensive as one may think. My glass supplier in Ridgewood, Al at Major Lock and Glass will remove the glass from the frame and reinstall the new piece – so long as the frame is brought in to him. Steve

I just passed a truck outside a house that’s been having lots of work done by good contractors. Truck says Window Fix – might be worth looking into that company.

Just curious: how did you end up proceeding? Did you end up replacing the whole window, or just one of the panes?

I posted the same question recently and got helpful responses: http://brownstoner.staging.wpengine.com/forums/topic/cleaning-in-between-double-pane-windows-possible/ And, no, you can’t use a hair dryer. The seal has been broken. The only way to get rid of the condensation is to replace the glass.

No, moze. It might make it disappear as vapor for a while but it would re-condense. The seal is such that all the vapor wouldn’t get out.

Out of curiosity, wouldn’t taking a hair dryer to the condensation get rid of it?

I used Vila Windows to replace glass in one of mine. It was wood framed.

Sorry no. You might find a glass shop that will replace the sealed glass units into the original frames…. I’m guessing aluminum? Otherwise once the seals fail and moisture has entered its there forever If you look closely at the spacer between the two panes you might find the original manufacture date. 15-20 years is the typical lifespan.
