Anyone used "MR. Luis" Master Plasterer on this site?

He gave a competitive price to do molding reconstruction etc. But I haven’t seen any recommendations. Anyone ever worked with him? Thanks!

Hi Terry et al. Note I posted this BEFORE we began work with Mr Luis as it occurred to me I had never seen a rec for him. I met him at the house last week and he saw the scope of work. He asked for 60% up front, and this is what made me suspicious. Who gives 60% up front? So I thought to inquire further in the Brownstoner community before proceeding with work and forking over such money. We had an appointment yesterday/Sat at 10 am at the house we recently purchased that is need of a great deal of reno. My husband was in the house, dealing with a roofing contractor, and another contractor looking to repair walls and paint. So there were a few people milling about the house. Luis called me when at the house at 10:03 and asked me which one my husband was. I told him his name and that he was upstairs in the house and to ask one of the people to point him out (no more than 4 people in the house at that time). He called me again at 10:20 but I couldn’t answer the tel as I was in a music class with my daughter. My husband called me at 10:23 and said he was looking for Luis but couldn’t find him. I sent Luis multiple texts and left telephone messages before 10:30 – but Mr Luis just disappeared — VANISHED. So what do you make of this? Frankly, I get the feeling that it is possibly a scam. Guy shows up. Says he can do the work at less than half the price of other quotes. Asks for 60% up front. Comes to house to collect money. Disappears. Did he chicken out because there were unexpectedly too many people around to see the transaction? Who knows. But he is not returning tel calls or explaining to us why he disappeared. Could he have become upset because he could not find my husband in the house? Strange because the other contractors found my husband in the house without issue. As my husband said — “did Luis need a welcoming committee?” So make your own conclusions.
