Crown Moulding
What Rick said about conforming to older walls. They look fine once caulked and painted.

I have a small 5 family apartment building in the bronx. I would like to make some small changes in order to up the buildings character and value. I’d like to install some crown moulding in the vacant apartment. A contractor has recommended PVC moulding. Does anyone have any experience with this material. I only know of using wood.

I think it’s actually polyurethane foam. The only experience I have with it is narrow rope molding I used to finish off an original plaster medallion in my house that a previous owner had trimmed to fit under a large hexagonal light fixture base plus one replacement medallion
. It was easy to work with and IMO looks good. In the first photo only the off-white outer trim is polyurethane; the rest is original plaster. Amazon has many patterns of poly crown molding, but I don’t know if they’re capable of packing it so that it doesn’t get broken in shipping. The two 8′ lengths of narrow rope molding I ordered to add to my hexagonally modified medallion arrive broken in a flimsy box. That was not a problem, since I needed to cut it into <2' lengths, but it would be a major concern otherwise.

Poly or foam moldings look nice once caulked and painted. They are a good choice on older homes because they will bend and move, making them easier to install than solid wood crowns.
