I’ve just had such a positive experience with Eco Brooklyn helping us landscape our garden that I thought it would be worth giving them a shout-out on Brownstoner. Whether you already adopt sustainable practices or have been meaning to get more educated, founder of Eco Brooklyn, Gennaro Brooks-Church, has a unique way of sharing his passion and knowledge to help you find an individual sustainable solution that can fit with your budget and lifestyle. We’ve been renovating our brownstone, working with general contractors and subcontractors over a period of about 2 years, Gennaro Brooks-Church and his team have by far been the most reliable and efficient we have worked with so far. Thanks to Gennaro we now have a beautiful and safe garden for our us and our children made entirely from low embodied energy raw materials and found materials. Adopting sustainable practices doesn’t have to be a compromise, it can be a very creative and rewarding experience. It’s something we need to all start getting educated about at every level, and working with people like Gennaro who are passionate about sharing knowledge and transferring it into practical solutions is the way forward.

Hello Emma, Thank you for the amazing recommendation! It was a lot of fun doing your job. I am grateful that you were willing to take a risk in using that pallet wood for the deck. Luckily it turned out amazing and we plan on using it on other eco deck jobs. We just built an entire back yard fence with the wood going horizontal and it looks really good. Thanks for being the first! We applied three coats of natural oil but it is still an experiment as to how long it will last. I am confident they will go a very long time but if any of the boards rot out just let us know and we will replace them asap. If you can I suggest you reseal the deck each season with some oil from Lowes. Nothing fancy, just a quick pass over the surface – maybe an hour of work. Or you can have us do it. That will extend the life of the deck considerably. I also like the way the bluestone fits into the design. Very cool. Thanks for taking the risk!
