Just had second great experience, wanted to share plumber recommendation
I have had Peter do at least 5 plumbing jobs around our building over the past couple years so I can second the recommendation– friendly, knowledgable, fairly priced and honest.

I am a homeowner in Bushwick, I haven’t posted on Brownstoner before, but I just had such a positive experience with a plumber recommended to me by a friend (also a Bushwick resident) that I wanted to share as it has been difficult to find someone we really trust.
The first job Peter came to do for us was to fix a leak in our ceiling. He was on time, well-priced, and extremely nice to have in the house. The two plumbing services we used before always tried to upsell us/tell us to do things that it seemed questionable if we needed. Not Peter. He did the job for us, told us exactly what he’d done, and then took a look at a second issue we had (a smelly bath drain in our downstairs apartment) and diagnosed it correctly after two other plumbers had recommended much costlier fixes. We told him about the costlier fixes, worried that they might actually be the right path to go down, and he very patiently took us through the steps as to why it probably wasn’t a good idea.
He came back a second time this past weekend to fix the smelly drain. His work was excellent. He texted when he was running 15 mins late just to let us know and not leave us hanging. He fixed the issue, patched everything up perfectly, and again, his charge was extremely reasonable.
I can’t recommend him highly enough. His # is: 914 826 0181

What was the cause and cure for the smelly drain?

Great question @mozeeatupu. The original builders hadn’t put a trap on the bath drain and so all the smells from the drain were coming up into the bathroom. We had two other plumbers come out and tell us we had a malfunctioning toilet and would need to put several thousand dollars into a fix. We were skeptical, and asked Peter when he came the first time. He made a preliminary diagnosis (which turned out to be correct) and told us to leave the bath drain closed inbetween using the bath/shower for a week or two to see if it was that. he also said that if we could live with it closed inbetween using it, we wouldn’t need to fix it at all, but we decided once we knew the real root of the problem to have it fixed. Peter dug down through the outside wall of the bathroom and installed a trap.
