ISO: Plumber experienced in steam heat

I am looking for a plumber experienced in steam heat. Please let me know if you’ve worked with someone that you felt really knew his stuff. Also, wondering if anyone knows how long the heat needs to be turned on to determine if there are any leaks. Thanks.

What is your situation? What do you need help with? If you are looking for a leak on the steam side, you simply need to build a little pressure, say 3-5 pounds. That should show you a leak. On the return side, it’s a little tougher. Any exposed pipe should start dripping after 5-10 minutes depending on how hard you are firing, and where in the system the leak is. On an underground return pipe it might take much longer or more likely you will never see it. You would need to check for major water loss and hot spots in the floor. -Steam_man
