Landmarks visible rear facade

We are looking to modify the parlor level visible rear facade of a brownstone in a historic district. Currently there are two tall windows roughly 30″ wide on each side (one of which has a door installed for access to the rear deck). We are hoping to lift the base of one window to allow additional kitchen cabinetry along the wall and widen the other window to allow a 6ft sliding or French door and allow additional light. Other houses on the street have similar height 2/3 window configurations in the rear. Does anyone have feedback on landmarks views on such projects? Thanks, Susan

We’ve done a bunch of this kind of work and I would say it would be no problem to do what you’re suggesting. Even if it was visible from the street via some view corridor, you’d probably get it through pretty easily.

It somewhat depends on ow activist your neighbors are. Landmarks would probably o.k. it if the materials used don’t jar w/ the overall feel of the garden core – except if neighbors choose to fight any changes.
