North Crown Heights Landmarking

Does anyone know if Pacific Street between Brooklyn and New York Avenues will be part of the Phase III land marking? I was also wondering if the apartment building at 1384 Pacific street, which also has on entrance on Brooklyn Avenue will be included. Not quite sure by the map designating the areas, but I am curious as to why Pacific Street wouldn’t be included. The block doesn’t appear to have as many architecturally significant buildings as many of the other blocks, but they are a few nice buildings on the block.  Anyone with knowledge of the situation please inform

Thank you so much for the explanation Montrose, all though I was a bit disappointed with the details. Sad to hear the block and 1384 isn’t being considered. I will keep my fingers crossed for a change of heart by the LPC.

No, nothing on that block is landmarked, including 1384 Pacific. Personally, I think the LPC was shortsighted on this block, and only saw the very altered buildings, not the majority that could have been landmarked. Specifically, on the south side, the three really well kept flats buildings with the superior carved limestone ornament, the frame houses, most of which have many of their original features, some of the other houses in the middle, and 1384\. On the other side of the street, it’s a total mystery why they failed to landmark the mansion on the corner, as well as the row of Greek Revivals next door. Most of them are also in fine original shape. I would have landmarked the Neo-Grecs, too, so they could be rehabbed. I’ve seen worse landmarked. They should have just gone down the street, as they landmarked most of the previous block, and all of the next. It leaves a big hole.

For what it’s worth, the Crown Heights North Association has that block, and well as others, on a list for the LPC to come back to. It may be a generation before that happens, hopefully the houses survive, or better yet, improve on their own.
