I only vaguely remember that. I remember there was someone who always ranted that woodframe “tinderboxes” had no value, were going to burn down, and shouldn’t be discussed on brownstoner because they weren’t brownstones, but that was very early on. You can imagine I took some umbrage.

Question on Underpinning: an architect told me he understands underpinning to be a slow effect on a building crack appear, subtle. My worry is the underpinning ended in early Feb – so by the time they start Phase 2 of the project (Phase 1 was the adjacent apartment and underpinning) things will fall apart in my house when they start working on there’s. Does this make sense, agree/disagree? Thanks.

underpinning should make your house more stable, not less. Them removing sheetrock will only effect your house if it is unstable in some way.

I’m sure the landlord doing the illegal job was in no way trying to benefit my house. When I referenced underpinning – he immediately said demolition. I mean them removing and replacing sheetrock and flooring could adversely effect my house.

If this is such a concern and stress for you, why not take documentary evidence (write it down if it’s too late to video or record), and consult with an attorney?
