I am considering buying a couple of 3.5×7.5′ slabs of old bowling alley floor, maybe 3″ thick, to construct kitchen countertops. I’d like to create a standard kitchen countertop (2×7) and kitchen island (3×5) out of them. I figure it would require cutting to size, sanding, and sealing- to ahieve a result looking similar to photo. Any recs for someone who can do this work at a reasonable cost? PS They are quite heavy too.

You should talk to Counter Evolution. http://www.counterev.com/ They are in Dumbo and their whole product line is made from reclaimed bowling alley wood. Pretty affordable (relatively) too, considering that they do hand made, custom work.

careful on the rips. In my experience, bowling alley slabs are often conected with threaded rod. If so, table saw will spark- which may cause fire in dust collection unit. Locate and remove threaded rod before re-sizing.
