Housepoor, i realize that. I used 20% because that is on line with what some contractors will mark certain things up.
I am not sure what a gc’s liability insurance costs. Aside from that. I am wondering if these contractors consider worker’s comp a payroll expense or an insurance expense. My mom worked for an re management/owner and i will ask her how they looked at that. There is no way out of some of this and the city does not care if hic’s like me have insurance but with gc’s they require it.

I do suspect you mean polyurethane (be it water base, water bourne, or oil base, or maybe even water base with a hardener). the possibility exists that you do mean “epoxy”. if I knew, I could better advise. we work with all sorts of finishes and yes, sometimes we do a light screening on some and a light top coat. I’m also interested in doing the structure-free version of this transaction, for the exact same reasons as swlarch. The neighbor’s yard is overgrown and underused, he seems like he could use the money, we would love more space. I’d want to structure the deal so that the land reverts to him when he sells the property, but that we can recoup the cost of any improvements if he sells within some horizon. (Say we spend 20K on improvements, he sells next year, we get it all back; he sells in 3 years, we get 80% back, he sells in 20 years, we don’t get anything). Anyone heard of anyone actually doing this? Any idea how you’d price such a lease or easement? (park block in the south slope, no real value to him, no value to anyone but us or another neighbor?)

Do they have any weather stripping (metal type in the jams or pile type face mounted on retaining molding and parting strips)? Proper stripping can reduce drafts significantly. Original windows in proper working order are far superior from a quality standpoint than most new windows. I have no experience with Indow Window.

lol problem is I bet this was “asked for” by someone at CB2 Anyone who has lived near a speed bump before knows that all these do is cause more noise and speeding where people brake before, ‘hit making noise’ then speed up away. If they really wanted to slow drivers down the best is slalom objects. I’ve already reported to DOT that as Henry St is a major route for the BH Fire Brigade that it breaks DOT rules. The specific placement also breaks 6ft manhole cover rules although all this does is moves it 20ft further up towards CVS which isn’t really a solution I’m looking for.

Oh My God !!! I’ve temporarily attached the PDF that was emailed to me that the BHA and CB2 have presented to the NYC DOT but this is the first I’ve ever heard of it and I cant find anything online about it. You can download it for now from here – http://www.collins.net.pr/upload/Brookly_Heights_SZ_Neighborhood_Map_revised_5.11.15.pdf So much for “community consultation” Local government run amuck, you should see how many speed bumps there are going into our little 10 block radius area – There are over 28 different speed bumps being installed in the Brooklyn Heights area alone. There are 4 speed bumps going into Henry St alone (this along with 5 sets of traffic lights……what the heck are they thinking?). This is plain nuts – talk about the noise pollution from all these cars braking before hand, then crashing into, then speeding up away from each of these 28 speed bumps. No wonder our rates went up 20% last year.

The Brooklyn Heights Association (BHA) conducted a survey before applying for the designation. “In all 685 people completed the survey. Of those, 625, or 91%, were in favor of a Slow Zone application, and 60, or 9% were opposed,” according to the BHA. There will undoubtedly be a period of adjustment but any driver whose approach to speed humps is similar to skiing moguls is in for a rough ride and a shortened lifespan for their vehicle. Drivers will learn to slow down, which is the whole point.

But that’s the whole point Robert, speedbumps DONT slow down traffic. If you want to cut down traffic in BH area all they needed to do was block off all traffic to southbound traffic at Henry and Middagh and all north bound traffic at Hicks and Atlantic. If any CB2 and BHA executive committee would like to post their personal address on the forum and allow us to do a decibel to decibel tape recording outside of their property then i’ll drop my objections and welcome the installation. Claiming community consultation when notices weren’t posted in the proposed locations……yep I bet I’m not the only one that is hearing about this for the first time. As for the survey is there a reason why its been removed from survey monkey? would be interesting to see how the questions were posed and what the options/methodology was.

How can any street in Brooklyn Heights, or anywhere in brownstone Brooklyn, be described as a “suburban road”?

Hi Bob, I guess I meant….not a major thoroughfare. But at the same time because of traffic heading for “south of atlantic” its hardly a side street.
