Someone’s not wasting any time! We broke the news at the end of January that the highly-visible McDonald’s at the corner of Tillary and Gold had just closed after a twenty-year run. Six weeks later, the place is boarded up with plywood and ready to be torn down: The demolition permit was pre-filed for last week.

  1. Legion,

I don’t know how you constitutionalize the mentality of individuals. But on the personal responsibility note, I think there is a government role, which is to stop subsidizing corn surpluses so heavily that it makes it so much cheaper to eat an unhealthy diet than a healthy one. Unfortuntely, eating fast food twice a day is a rational choice, say, for someone working two jobs and a family to feed, than either taking the time to cook or buying something healthier that is significantly mroe expensive.

  2. mcdonalds is probably 1000 x cleaner and more sanitary than any flash in the pan organic and vegan restaurant out there. and im not saying mcdonalds is good, ick, it’s gross seriously, but to want the government to step in to dictate what people eat? um, no. am i the only one who cant wait for that idiot nanny bloomberg to leave office? jeez. he has chronic baby sitter issues, seriously.

  3. BSD,
The fact that it was painful to say is only indicative of how far gone we are as a society from our founding principles.

The truth is that there is no place on earth with as many personal freedoms as this nation,
    but
with those personal freedoms come the responsibility to live one’s life with regard to societal standards and shockingly for some, with an understanding that your health is largely in your own hands.

We seriously need a constitutional amendment to put an end to the prevailing lunacy of an entitlement mentality.
I have to put much of the blame on the baby boomers. They were coddled by the WWII/depression era generation and will continue to demand/expect everything from this nation whether we can afford it or not. Do not be surprised, as the 70 million baby boomers start collecting their social security in the next 10 years, that they will continue to demand everything under the sun even as the work force to bring in the tax revenues continues to dwindle.

And the president wants to add a Trillion dollar health plan to the mix.

    Doesn’t add up.
