After we broke the news yesterday of Whole Foods’ decision to go ahead with plans to build on a contaminated lot in Gowanus, Crain’s followed up half an hour later with a story of its own. And while neglecting to give our post a hat-tip, the business paper did come up with some interesting original content: This rendering. Neato.

wonderful news. great watercolor rendering.
brooklyn is hot!
i dont consider people who live in rent controlled apartments riff-raff. riff-raff are the types that move into destabalized apartments and pay thousand and thousands of dollars a month in rent only to comlain about every single thing around them not being upto par with their exquisitely (lol) tastes

“I would love to see a permanent year round farmers market here.”
There’s a farmer’s market a 5 minute walk away every single Sunday on 5th Avenue and 3rd Street.
“Whole Foods in Gowanus is a big improvement over a vacant toxic site,”
funny – no one has this point of view when an ugly condo building gets built on a formerly toxic/vacant lot.
brownstoners – ugly shit is bad, unless it sells organic produce.
For the record, I send in a TON of tips to Brownstoner and never get credit (Have noticed that some people are mentioned for their efforts).
Also, I posted this Crain’s article yesterday to the thread as soon as it went live.
Ishtar, the Whole Foods on the Upper West Side has the bulk grains and nuts section and it’s cheaper than Sahadi’s.
Walmart? Seriously?
First of all Walmarts are typically built with 80-100Ksf footprints. They also require 1 car per 200sf. Thats 400-500 cars. Yipes. They are built like concrete block bunkers with no need for windows of any kind (check out the one on Old Country Road in Westbury). They pay crap wages and treat their employees with little respect. Also have you ever looked at the size of a Walmart loading dock. Its about triple the size of a whole food dock for a reason. That spells a lot of truck traffic for the neighborhood. I hope you were kidding.
There’s even riff raff in brooklyn Heights. You know there are RS and RC apartments there?
DIBS, Why don’t you stfu yourself every once in a while? Mr. B is right, he’s got a right to complain on his blog & I can comment and make fun of him & the Whole Foods will get built.
Whole Foods in Gowanus is a big improvement over a vacant toxic site, but won’t change my food shopping habits. However I am working on my new business plan: a service to take online food orders from electric vehicle owners – my employees will drive to and plug in at the WF parking lot during the ASP hours on the customer’s street, and return with the food & a legally parked recharged car. It will be called OrganicGreenSpaceDirect.com and I’ll be having an IPO soon.
