After we broke the news yesterday of Whole Foods’ decision to go ahead with plans to build on a contaminated lot in Gowanus, Crain’s followed up half an hour later with a story of its own. And while neglecting to give our post a hat-tip, the business paper did come up with some interesting original content: This rendering. Neato.
Doesn’t Target have a higher earning per store open over a year than Walmart?
Walmart is the worst store I’ve even been in. I think I’ve shopped there maybe two times in my life. I felt like I was being crowded with merchandise. The lighting is terrible and so is the general set up. They also have some of the ugliest cheapest clothing options. I won’t even by Hanes and Fruit of the Loom at Walmart for fear of getting some extra cheaply made knock off.

Wake up, there is a reason Atlantic Center Target is one of the highest grossing stores in the nation. Most people don’t have a lot left over after the rent / metrocard / smartphone bill / fancy cocktail tab gets paid. Toilet paper is still toilet paper no matter where you buy it.
tho lol @ the smarphone bill and fancy cocktail part. hahah
thank you!
“There’s a farmer’s market a 5 minute walk away every single Sunday on 5th Avenue and 3rd Street.”
Not the same. I’m talking about a space that’s open seven days a week with goods provided by local farmers and manufacturers. I personally think those types of places are far better than any Whole Foods. Unfortunately, those places also require public funds to get started.
This will raise real estate values in the immediate area.
Are the DEP/EPA issues less for retail than they are for housing???
re: tips, most people want to remain anonymous, so just let us know if you want credit!
rob, forget it. They took your bait.
Taken to the extreme, one could justify having factories in New York City that exploit child labour because the result would be very cheap goods available to everybody and the most frequented and “successful” franchises in the country. It’s not that far a stretch when you consider how underpaid Walmart employees are, the lack of health benefits available to them and their families, the amount of money taxpayers are forced to pay to subsidize the wages and health care, the relative lack of money put back into the community and to charity by Walmart, etc.
I shop at AC Target and would shop at a WalMart if it were here. Never had a problem with staff at Target.
I may even stop by at the Whole Foods once it’s built!
Agree with those that say this is a real positive for BK.
it’s being a troll to make a joke at made up neighborhood names?! jeez
