After we broke the news yesterday of Whole Foods’ decision to go ahead with plans to build on a contaminated lot in Gowanus, Crain’s followed up half an hour later with a story of its own. And while neglecting to give our post a hat-tip, the business paper did come up with some interesting original content: This rendering. Neato.

  1. I certainly do see the appeal of Walmart. It provides very cheap goods. It was a disaster from the point of a madhouse of shppers, mosty rude and the checkout staff, also rude.

    A pure hell hole.

The stock has done absolutely nothing since 2000, from the standpoint of a hege fund manager or any investor, including their own employees as shareholders.

WFMI, on the other hand was under $10 in 2000 and is now $46 and had reached a high of $75.

so not liking yuppie ammenities makes someone a troll? okaaaaaay newsflash: not everyone pines for that pretentious garbage.

  3. How about this scenario: Walmart opens there, and Sarah Palin is invited to do the ribbon-cutting! I think the Brownstoners would become apoplectic!! I think Mr. B’s servers would go down for a week from the overload.

  4. “About 10 years ago i went into the Walmart in Philadelphia on delaware Ave. I have not stepped foot in a Walmart since then.”

what a shocker, rich hedge fund dude doesn’t see the appeal of wal-mart.

  5. About 10 years ago i went into the Walmart in Philadelphia on delaware Ave. I have not stepped foot in a Walmart since then.

    There’s a reason why there’s a wonderful website called peopleofwalmart.com

  6. a walmart would cause massive heart attacks hahaha. not big on a walmart i guess either, tho im in no way against them. the only problem with walmart (at least in my experience) is that you wind up going in and coming out broke with a ton of crap you don’t need. whole foods tho would do nothing but attract a lot of riff-raff to the area.
