We received a number of emails last night from readers about a shooting that took place last night in Fort Greene; The Local also posted a late-night account of the incident. The emails we received put the shooting at around 8:15 on Fulton between South Elliott and South Portand; The Local gives a precise time of 8:23 p.m. and says that one victim was a black male of about 15 years in age and that the other victim was slightly older. One of the emails we received also noted that there were a lot of teenagers out on the street leading up to the shootings being “very rowdy.” Anyone know what was going on? Update: Here are some more details that a reader just sent in…Evidently the scuffle that lead to the shooting started at Atlantic Center about 7:45. The problem? Buffalo Wings is offering $.40 wings on Tuesdays, which has attracted kids from all over the city; in this case, the fact that the next day was a holiday only compounded the problem. According to the tipster, the commanding officer is working with mall security and management to end the promotion earlier. The tipster also said that the kids involved in the shooting were not from the neighborhood.
Update 12:52 pm: We just got the official report from Captain Tasso at the 88th. Turns out there were two separate shootings last night, the one discussed above in which two teens were shot but are in stable condition, and another (also non-life threatening) one at Flatbush and Fulton; there was also a stabbing in the vicinity of Atlantic Center. All three events are being linked to the buffalo wing promotion. There was a large police presence on hand that managed to send thousands of the teens home, obviously some managed to cause problems before leaving the area; none of individuals involved in any of the incidents were from the neighborhood.
Well, the proof is in the pudding, as they say. Sorry but I don’t see where a 40 cent chicken wing night is worth the shooting and stabbing. It was the promotion that brought them there en masse – we’re not talking a charitable event here. But hey, if you want to see your tax dollars at work fro Bw3, here’s your big chance.
The story is about security- the mall was not equipped to deal with it. They should have anticipated. It isn’t so different from what happened at WalMart when a store employee was trampled to death- because the store didn’t anticipate a problem.
And yes, rf, I’m well aware about the logistics of New Year’s eve. But a big food promotion is hardly a spontaneous gathering. Its orchestrated marketing.
I am not sure how much police searches would have changed the outcome last night. I overheard a detective say that “A young man was seen making a phone call and then a car drove up and dropped guns off onto the street”
Guns are accessible 24/7
DeLepp, there are plenty of reasons to enter! Cheap cereal (prices cant be beat on that one), toilet paper sales, great prices on kleenex (imperative for those of us w/ allergies who insist on having two cats and sneeze constantly), and let us not forget the dollar bin!
As for target in brooklyn, it’s their highest grossing store per square foot in the nation. There is no reason to hire good people or fill the shelves.

Except that of course they could sell a lot more stuff if the shelves were stocked (and if they had enough cashiers to take money!). Then they’d be even higher grossing and presumably they would make more money. What’s the sense of having the stuff if you can’t sell it?
Thanks, Snappy, for the stock tag trick. It’s a shame that most of the scanners are broken.
I agree with Biff. I like the one at the Junction a lot better. Just a bus ride in a different direction from Bed-Stuy. And it’s in an equally disgusting and un-shopper-friendly mall, but with fewer other shopping options. And the one in Queens on the way to the Whitestone Bridge (20th Ave. exit on the Whitestone Expressway) is even better.
I was referring to the Target in the big hat box on Queens Blvd. I’n gonna try Snappy’s technique if I’m ever unfortunate enought to be there again.
biff, ding ding ding! There is not one reason to bother entering.
weird. ive been to that target a few times and it seemed decently stocked and it was very clean. definitely witnessed a LOT of employee attitude tho (like cashiers actually cursing at customers lol) but none of it was directed at me so i didnt care
*rob*
It’s also the most highly gross store per square foot in the nation.
