We received a number of emails last night from readers about a shooting that took place last night in Fort Greene; The Local also posted a late-night account of the incident. The emails we received put the shooting at around 8:15 on Fulton between South Elliott and South Portand; The Local gives a precise time of 8:23 p.m. and says that one victim was a black male of about 15 years in age and that the other victim was slightly older. One of the emails we received also noted that there were a lot of teenagers out on the street leading up to the shootings being “very rowdy.” Anyone know what was going on? Update: Here are some more details that a reader just sent in…Evidently the scuffle that lead to the shooting started at Atlantic Center about 7:45. The problem? Buffalo Wings is offering $.40 wings on Tuesdays, which has attracted kids from all over the city; in this case, the fact that the next day was a holiday only compounded the problem. According to the tipster, the commanding officer is working with mall security and management to end the promotion earlier. The tipster also said that the kids involved in the shooting were not from the neighborhood.
Update 12:52 pm: We just got the official report from Captain Tasso at the 88th. Turns out there were two separate shootings last night, the one discussed above in which two teens were shot but are in stable condition, and another (also non-life threatening) one at Flatbush and Fulton; there was also a stabbing in the vicinity of Atlantic Center. All three events are being linked to the buffalo wing promotion. There was a large police presence on hand that managed to send thousands of the teens home, obviously some managed to cause problems before leaving the area; none of individuals involved in any of the incidents were from the neighborhood.
I agree with menard’s 12:16 post. Gun carrying teens are definitely in the minority.
The laws against such need to be much tougher.
what is BW3 anyway? i kinda wanna go check it out!

Some male teenagers are extremely conscientious and intelligent. For many, the teen years are their most idealistic years. Let’s not go overboard because there are jerks who shoot each other over chicken wings.
Apparently the management of BW3 needs to pull their heads out of their asses.

LOL, it’s quite the opposite.

I think we can all agree that by and large, male teenagers are stupid. Running an event that will attract large numbers of male teenagers need very serious security. It’s not a race or urban issue, it’s a biological, timeless problem. Ergo, don’t run such promos or events unless you have the crowd control plan, especially when it’s not a school night and it’s not raining or freezing.
There is a correlation, not causation but correlation. On 40 cent wing nights Bw3 has a change in its demographics percentage-wise, granted thats only based on my being there maybe 5 times or so vs 10 other times on non 40 cent wing night. I have only seen fights on 40 cent wing nights (3 times out of 5). The fights have never involved anyone who was not african-american. Therefore there is a correlation between 40 cent wings and african-american people fighting. How much that correlation is related to the actual wings vs other factors like education and poverty level is certainly up for debate, but the correlation is there and has followed me from Cleveland where the same thing happened.
Thank you Colonel Steve Austin.
And NO, I would not like to share with this blog the facts that I witnessed last night on account of the wild speculations, racism, elitism, and the general snarky tone of this blog and many of the people commenting on it.
The community needs to get together to help stop this problem. The news should be reporting on more incidents like this rather this. It seems the more gentrified a neighborhood becomes the less the news reports on crime. It’s obvious people are more concerned with property value than human lives. There are families grieving right now, yet many of you make jokes.

well… they do down here in Soho.
