Iris Nails, which has four existing locations in Manhattan, is scheduled to open at the corner of Smith and Pacific Streets in February. As Pardon Me For Asking noted last month, the asking rent for the 1,400-square-foot space was originally $14,000 a month. Yikes! Wonder what the ultimate number was. GMAP

  1. BTW, no one wants to chime in on how outrageous commercial/retial rents became on Smith in the last decade? When I moved to BH around the millenium, the avearage was $12-14 psf. The ask on this one was $120.

C’mon Tyburg, how about you venting some your pent up rage on greedy landlords about this one?

    🙂

  2. quote:
Some people consider having their nails done as much a necessity as food

:-/, and then you wonder why people are stuck in the vicous cycle of poverty. my grandmother was the way. when my grandfather would give her “her pay” she’d run off to the beauty parlor.

    *rob*

  3. I got my one and only lifetime manicure @ the Dashing Diva on Smith – for Valentines one year I got my gf $150 certificate. So even after running a bunch of errands up and down Smith and Court, she was still getting stuff done (whatever stuff you can get for $150). To kill the last 20-30 minutes, I opted for a basic manicure (which, it turns out, is more common for middle aged male executives than most of us realize). Pretty sure the cheapest no-frills deal was at least $20.

I will admit I did enjoy the hand massage. Alright, just leave that one alone DIBS.

  4. Not to sound like the overly polished, primped and waxed female that i am (at least i admit it) but im entirely to happy about iris nails coming to brooklyn. 🙂

A manicure is 12-14 dollars including 5 minute neck arm and upper back massage at the end. A pedicure starts out at 40 and can go as high as 70.

There’s one not to far from my job.

  5. More specifically, I’d like to know how much those nail jobs with various accessories dangling off the 2-inch long nails cost.

Also, do these women have to forgo gloves in the winter? Or do they cut slots in the ends so they look like Wolverine?
