Iris Nails, which has four existing locations in Manhattan, is scheduled to open at the corner of Smith and Pacific Streets in February. As Pardon Me For Asking noted last month, the asking rent for the 1,400-square-foot space was originally $14,000 a month. Yikes! Wonder what the ultimate number was. GMAP

  1. i got a mani / pedi once in my life. some place up in harlem. the woman made a face when it came time for my feet!
it was cheap, only like 15 bux or something. not like these frou-frou overpriced “spas” for white women and gays.

    *rob*

  2. I don’t fault the landlords for the rents. I fault the stupid public that has no problem paying all that money on booze (in bars or restaurants) with outrageous markup that fuels the amount of rent all those types of establishments are willing to pay and drive out all the other types of businesses.

  3. s/b retail s/b average

Sorry, my pent up rage over retail rents increases my typos at a rate only slightly lower than Smith St rents (though I imagine peak for the latter was around summer 2008).

  4. I’m wondering if nail salons work the same way as a lot of hair salons… rather than paying an hourly wage, the person gets a cut of the price tag (and the rate may vary on their skills and level of awesomeness) and then pays the salon rent for their station. So they’re kinda like freelancers with a pimp.
