The rumors about Associated’s takeover of the old Beso space on 5th Avenue near Union are looking solid. There’s a rendering of an expanded version of the supermarket pasted on the window of the recently shuttered restaurant that shows the grocery store (see photo on jump) also swallowing up the adjacent (and similarly closed) Donutscoffee shop. We’re looking forward to seeing a bigger supermarket in this spot, but we know a few Slopers who were hungry for another restaurant in the spot. Think it’s an OK trade-off? GMAP

  1. I won’t miss Beso but the Donut place was great.
I only hope this means Associated will start selling beer and cheap. AND finally gets a real butcher and stops selling that rank smelling meat they currently have. Also milk that doesn’t turn right away due to poor refrigeration.

  2. I think we would all LOVE that.

I actually emailed Trader Joe’s to see if they would take a look at that space. No response.

How about a small, boutique apple store?

That space is so so prime. It really should be something good that can take advantage of all the foot traffic from the neighborhood and hospital. All those wealthy doctors need a place to spend their bucks.

  3. It still said for rent when I walked by on Sunday.

I had once heard doctor’s offices, but I’m rather hoping for an Amish Market myself.

Or maybe a Jamba Juice and an Ethiopian place.

    Wishful thinking, I know.
