“Sexy people, ritzy lighting and comfy lounge furniture” is not a line we would use to describe many spots in Brooklyn, much less Gowanus. But the New York Post was apparently pretty impressed with the dance club that just had its soft opening at 424 Third Avenue. The club, called “Ultraviolet,” was a warehouse space and is now a three-story, very purple, dance-and-drink destination. As a Greenpoint visitor noted, Gowanus definitely doesn’t stink so much anymore.

  1. Well it’s a silly argument really, Pigeon because:

    1. I like nightclubs and sounds like you don’t and

    2. I live smack dab in the middle of a historic district so there will be no nightclub within a few blocks of me for the forseeable future.

  2. btw 11217,

Although you apparently can afford to live in an exclusive part of Brooklyn, you’d nevertheless be a FOOL not to consider that a night club might open up down the street from your home, too.

what are whippits…a new club drug ?

balloons filled with nitrous oxide. guys like to set up shop outside of some clubs/venues and sell them for $5 a pop. The Village Voice did a big expose on them a few weeks ago.

  4. Please don’t twist things around, 11217. I’m not saying the night club should be prohibited in that location.

I’m saying be careful before you hail a nightclub to be a wonderful thing.

    ninethreesix lives in that neighborhood.
    I don’t.
So, his view counts for more than mine.
But, be aware of what nightclubs bring.

(I’m talking about night clubs, not local bars.)

And, btw, night clubs have wrecked havoc on the meatpacking district, which has become like a Disneyworld for the post-college crowd.
