  1. I’m also surprised nobody has talked yet today about U.S. homes losing $2 trillion in value. The What, I would have expected you to mention this (I’m not trying to bait you; I really thought you would have picked up on it – unless you’ve mentioned it somewhere else).

  2. Re: Madoff, I think Madoff’s success all these years is, in great part, a combination of ignorance, greed, and the fatal blind trust and comfort of placing one’s money with “one of your own”, someone in the same income bracket, same country club, shared interests and background. I don’t think people deserve what happened to them, but it emphatically illustrates the need to do research, wait and ask questions and get advice, and realize that if something looks too good to be true, it ALWAYS is.

  3. Inigo, I agree with you completely on the Love Lane Condos.

Next off-topic topic…nobody’s mentioned the Iraqi reporter who threw his shoes at bush? I thought the guy had really good aim (unfortunately, not good enough, though) and looked like that wasn’t the first time he’s done that. Apparently, throwing your shoes at someone is the worst insult one can do in those parts…

  4. The Love Lane Condo Project is a disaster. It was one of the worst real estate blunders I have ever seen. The old garage was a cash cow. Instead of something that everyone needs -a garage- they are putting in something that nobody needs ot wants-new condos. Now, with the glut of new condos in Brooklyn, it looks like the developers have finally accepted the grim reality that they are investing in a project that will produce condos with no views, situated on a service alley, in a former garage, that is kind of ugly and squat. What were they thinking? They killed the goose that laid the golden eggs.
I think there is still time to put the project on reverse and create a state-of-the-art parking garage where there has always been a garage. Unlike yet more condos, it will make money hand over fist.

  5. Did you read that Madoff article in the NYT this weekend, too. Wow, the part about the SEC investigation was a little stunning, no?! The Barron’s thing was surprising in that this guy continued to have such success. Were people just so dazzled by the returns? Or do they really not do much research?

  6. I just can’t believe how many people put their eggs in Madoff’s basket.

Cobblehiller this the tip of the iceberg! I bet Hedge Funds and Brokerage Houses are getting calls from all over the world and I think the fuel for the Mutant Asset Bubble gets pulled ASAP! Massive redemption calls coming your way and I bet other people are scrambling to get liquid right now! I thought the market would be OK until Obama get sworn in but maybe this crash get stared now!

“Re: Mets – from your lips to G*d’s ears! The Mets HAVE to do better next year. I mean at least get into the playoffs!”

Did you know the Mets blew 27 games when leading after 7 innings?! The closing core sucked last year but with K-Rod and Putz, it’s lights out baby! I wished they would have signed Iberez, he went to the Phillies, who I think may repeat as Champs, they have a great team. But let’s see! 8 weeks to Pitchers and Catchers…
