  1. BH and I went to see it last summer. It was really cool. And they told us that this summer the 2nd/bedroom floor will be finished/restored and open!

The Mark Twain house looks very cool. Did I hear that they are in desperate need of money to keep up the upkeep?

  2. DIBS, have you been to the Barnes outside Philly? Old mansion, owner was one of the earliest American collectors of early modern art (Cezanne, Picasso) etc. Crazy as a loon. Strict rules about how the collection is organized and displayed. The whole art collection is moving to Center City soon, but you should see it in its original habitat while it lasts.

As for house dates, so far we think ours goes back to 1869. More research to follow when I get a chance.

  3. The FGVOTD…hysterical….thanks.

My favorite house museums (I can’t pass one up, and I’ve been to quite a few)in the US so far are:
    Biltmore – http://www.biltmore.com
    Falling Water – http://www.fallingwater.org

Cobble, I’ve been to Olana….it’s really beautiful, you should take a trip up there….if you don’t have a car, metro north I think goes up there.

I want to go to Mark Twain’s house.

  4. I’d get that cloth covered wiring replaced!!!! 1875 is earlier than mine. Mine is late 1880s or 1890s as I’ve been told by Bob Mrvin, not 1905 as it states on all the paperwork. Bob says that many houses are dated to 1905 because thewre was a fire in 1904 that destroyed all the records.

My fireplaces are a dark grey slate with some red and green streaks in it. Your probably should be marble.

Mine’s like this, though less ornate..
