EXPECTING 2″ HAIL AND 70 MPH WINDS

I was lying out on my patio on the lawn furniture the other night, contemplating the eternal verities, looking through the thick foliage on my 65 foot Norway maple that stretches over 7 properties (nothing like a tree like THAT to get to know your neighbors) on which I have ALREADY spent 3,500 dollars since I bought the place….and I noticed a leader (smallish but definately a leader) which was dead. That pretty much ruined my reverie. I kept thinking about the next storm and that thing was going to be a missle flying toward somebody’s place. I estimate an 800 dollar job.

  4. I spent some money to get my dog medicine once. It probably cost 20 bucks or something. He ended up getting pretty sick (cancer I’m pretty sure) and when it got really bad we took him out behind the barn and shot him to put him out of his misery.

  5. donatella,
There are a couple of ways around it in my experience.
First is to get to know someone who knows basic plumbing and electric. In the past I’ve used handymen that are glad to get a C-note for a half day’s work.
There are good handymen and bad handymen. Trick is to get the ones who know what they’re doing and are reliable. They are out there.

Second is to make sure what they tell you is needed, is necessary. I called a plumber over once for a tenant’s kitchen sink leak. They wanted to charge something like $600 dollars to replace the plumbing into the wall.
I said forget it. When I checked it out myself, it turned out to be a simple U-trap replacement.
At least the receipts are deductable, that’s a small consolation for tenant bills. :o(
