Slopey, I used the ‘time machine’ function on google earth and went back pre-construction. there were trees, etc just behind the house and before the start of the open lot. I guess the trees belonged to the developers.
yeah exactly jb. If all countries agree – well then, it’s just a product of their laws. It’s not some product of “natural rights” whatever the fuck that means anyways.
Critical literary theory goes right in the same pile as debates on natural rights. Useless.
Power is not derived from reason. Power is above reason.
Power creates structure, and within that structure reason can operate.
Reason cannot trump power. That’s what people who waste their time arguing about stuff like natural rights will never understand. You can generate a perfect argument in favor of natural rights, and it still won’t beat power.
Self-proclaimed intellectuals have it backwards. Fighting for power is the higher calling. Sitting around and thinking about it is the lower one.
Snappy — I get a google earth photo mid-construction. Either 157 never owned any back yard, or perhaps the developers bought 157 at some point. You can do a lot of mischief on the lot line rules if you own property that goes through from one block to the next. that said, I woul dlook at zoning map, too.
“Big debates that rage on for a generation and will never have a modicum of consequenceâ€
Well, I imagine if we were able to develop an international code of natural rights to which all countries subscribed, then we could go about enforcing them. But then again, if all countries agreed, then they would be enforced by the individual countries. Okay, I see your point.
The whole debate on natural rights is such an intellectual circle jerk. You can argue it either way, but even if you have a good argument that they exist, so what? OK, yay, natural rights exist, what do we do now, throw a party? The entire debate is insufferably academic and is utterly devoid of consequence of any kind. It just so….. I don’t know, French I guess. French wannabe intellectuals are really into stuff like that. Big debates that rage on for a generation and will never have a modicum of consequence.

rob, I completely agree with you re those buses. I told my kid if she ever wanted to take one I’d pay for her to upgrade to Trailways.

I don’t understand why those coaches have no seat belts.
Slopey, ACRIS isn’t showing any deeds or easements. Maybe the green that was there never belonged to the house in the first place. Total bummer.
