  1. I believe there are some cultures where you are given a child’s name when you are born, and then choose your adult name later on.

Having your name changed is a minor pain in the ass, but it can be done.

  2. i dont think kids should be named at birth. they should be allowed to figure out what their name will be on their own. since everyone has a social security number, just use that (maybe add all the digits to make it easier?) like i just added up all the digits in my SS# and it comes out to 52, so in the beginning of life i would be called 52 until i figure out what i want my government name to be. why are our government names given to us against our will? that’s always bothered me for some reason

  3. My sister and I share the same fist and last initials – SS. I never asked my mom if this was intentional.

My dad was a Jr, and had the same first name as my maternal grandfather, so they made a conscious decision not to name me that. I then named my son that.

Growing up I knew a couple called Jack and Jackie who’s children was Josh and Jocelyn.

I also had an uncle by marriage named Eddie who had a brother named Edwin.

  4. Was there anything particularity bad in the way that Strauss-Kahn ran the IMF?
I understand that he is a womanizing asshole, but his running of the IMF seemed to be pretty straight-forward.

Usually, it is the liberals (along with isolationists) who bash the IMF.
