  1. It would be great if this reached Saudi.

It’s not like they’re not going to stop selling oil. It’s just that the $$ will go into different pockets.

Actually it was the chief economist for the Saudi state oil company that told me once that it doesn’t matter one tiny little bit who anyone sells their oil to. If the Kuwaitis refuse to sell to us they’ll just sell to someone else, and that frees up supply somewhere else for us. People produce oil because they make money doing it. That simply won’t stop. The worst that can happen here is temporary supply disruption. What’s the new gov’t going to do, not make billions of dollars selling oil? Ridiculous.

Change like this is very exciting. They guys who have been getting rich over there stopped deserving it many years ago.

  2. There was an article today noting the Al Qaeda missed the boat on this. The protests are for reform, not fanaticism. Seems to have taken many of them by surprise. It’s a good thing- in the long run. Now let’s see if it affects the Saudis.

  3. “I know that the cape Air pilots, for example get paid between $50-100k. A lot of regional airline pilots are essentially part-time. They all have to undergo routine, frequent health checks.”

yeah – i fly cape air a few times a year. they charge big prices and don’t have nearly the overhead of a large regional airline – like a delta shuttle (fuel?)

yeah – he was definitely loose on facts on some stuff – but this one checked out in my post michael moore film research.

  4. dh, like most Michael Moore films, he’s fast and loose with the facts.

I know that the cape Air pilots, for example get paid between $50-100k. A lot of regional airline pilots are essentially part-time. They all have to undergo routine, frequent health checks.

  5. Arkady, Cheney has a lot of positives but he’s completely missing the plot on what’s going on in the Middle East and Northern Africa. In the short term there is going to be dislocation but in the long term this is a huge positive. Consider the stability of the world if all of those countries keep repressive regimes in place for the next 30 years. Now consider the stability of the world if something approximating liberal democracy actually takes root.

All of the chatter about extremists taking over is completely missing the plot.

This will make the world safer for my kids.
