“Cheney only went to war because of those entrenched interests & yet you endorsed that.”
Go back and find my post where I “endorsed that.” A lot of people on this blog make the mistake of thinking that I believe a lot of things I don’t just because I say some strongly conservative things. You are attributing to me an endorsement I never made.
“He also, of course, made a load of filthy lucre off supplying lousy gear for the action. I only wish you’d seen the light years ago.”
Whoah there. I’m not endorsing whatever you believe about Dick Cheney. I’m very careful about what I say. I said he is missing the plot currently and that his views are colored by certain interests. This is more subtle that you seem to think.
“After 45 days, the CEO announces that he’ shutting down the plant and they can all go rot. He moves the plant to an area of the country that gives him tax breaks, is welcoming of businesses and is chary of unions. he hires a new workforce and gives them a nice profit sharing plkan and a 401k.”
O hail, most benevolent CEO! More likely, moves to some downtrodden part of the country, and “negotiates” with locals to pay no taxes at all, while underpaying workers who are so desperate, they accept less than they should, just to be working. Result – less overhead, more profit for CEO and stockholders, and Wall St. celebrates his ingenuity.Profit sharing only from the top.
Worker “profit sharing” somehow disappears with talk about expenses of moving, building new plant, etc, etc. Later – we promise. 401K, nice, but doesn’t cost that much to company, as workers can’t afford big contributions, and company matching funds of people making less that the norm is no big deal. Bottom line for town and workers, still no corporate tax income coming in. income taxes revenues to town higher, because of work force, but not enough to pay for needed services, because salaries are too low to provide decent tax revenues.
Long story long, town and workers slightly better off, but no chance of getting all that much better. Company, stockholders, Wall St and CEO – livin’ the American Dream!
arkady- I’ve always been interested in warhorses. Did you read Black Beauty as a kid? Captain- his story moved me to tears. I don’t remember much about Black Beauty except for Captain’s story, and the one about the stable boy/bully getting beaten up for pulling the wings off flies because it was sheer cruelty. And Ginger- who really broke my heart.
Which is why I am a crazy cat lady- horses are too expensive!

it’s amazing how, as a country, we’re all about spreading “democracy”
yet we allow ourselves to work in totally autocratic workplaces – just for a paycheck to pay our high interest debt and have health insurance.
Hi everyone! I’m running through to say hello, since I have just a moment at work.
I’ll check back in later. I hope everyone had a great weekend!
I’m gearing up to have single mom time this week. Scott’s going out of town for a few days.
MM, CEO’s duty is to the shareholders.
DH, when banks pay 10x or more than typical engineering gig, no surprise where the talent goes.

arkady- i was shocked when Cheney went into the hospital for heart surgery. Who knew he had one?
Cheney is a sociopath. He’s a really scary dude.
