“Those people made choices that helped them emerge victorious. Make similar choices – get similar results. To believe otherwise is (negative) magical thinking.”
It’s amazing how the more important you are the more of the little things get handed to you. You know, those little things like food that poor families struggle for?
You think high-level corporate execs pay for sports tickets? Think about a guy who saves up to take his son to a baseball game. Then think about the guy who get tix shoved in his face all day because he’s the guy who makes purchasing decitions with other people’s money.
When I was right out of college starting off in Corporate America, you could survive by hitting the breakroom/kitchen areas around 1:30 and eating all the leftovers from lunch meetings that had been put out, then hit them again at 4:30 for the left over cookies/deserts.
M4l makes a valid statement at 1:16pm – I think that is the immigrant story at least here in the US.most of our immigrant parents or Grandparents came here rather poor and worked long hard days in order to provide better lives for their kids who turned around and went to college and moved up in the world….nowadays I don’t think that’s the narrative for many people anymore b/c it doesn’t seem as easy as it once was to just go to college and land a solid paying job..
look at many of us unemployed people on the OT – we are all well educated and worked in our various industries and are struggling

I disagree. I think that you expressed an impoverishing philosophy.
Many people have overcome circumstances far worse than either you or I will ever know. (OK, I am just guessing that there are people in the world who have suffered more than you – if I am wrong, I apologize)

Doesn’t surprise me slope.

They had to send out a memo to the HR staff at our main office not to do that, BHS!
DCB – does your poverty reduction program involve teaching the poor how to daytrade?

Those days are long gone, at least where I work.
