  1. Every job I’ve had has required team work and working groups. No way around it, so you have to find a way to make it work.

As for bullying, no shortage of that in the workplace either.

  2. One problem with “letting them fuck it up on their own” right after they learn something is that it reinforces the wrong answer and then it becomes harder for the kids to learn the right way.

This is a key reason why my principal friend is against homework.

If school was a about learning bunch of independent items this would not be too bad, but with each lesson building on next and all students expected to go at the same pace, the results of fucking something up can multiply.

I never do my son’s homework for him or give him an answer, but I do try to steer him back in the right direction when I see his messing something up.

  3. oh fuck no, cooperative learning? bitch please. there was nothing more annoying in school than group projects. i always felt like i was left with the lions share of the work and other people always brought down the grade. i specifically remember complaining in 8th grade to my history teacher when he assigned me to a group with a bunch of stupid people who probably never saw an A in their life. i flat out refused to partake, complained to my guidance counselor that i couldn’t be asked, and was excused from that project.

not all people work well with others, and they shouldnt be forced to.
