Slopey;
A brief synopsis of my reasons:
Cuomo: arrogant. The man was enamored of his ability to thrill a national audience with his rhetoric, but never put his mind to actually govening. To hear him talk about himself, you would think NYS was just humming under his governance, when in fact, it had the WORST bond rating of all the states upon his departure.
Carter and Dinkins: both projected weakness. This is a killer for anyone in an executive position.
Pataki: We are paying the price today for his cynical, unprincipled politics. He bought off everyone (SEIU endorsement, anyone?) by giving them a sweetheart deal on whatever they wanted -pensions, underutilized hospitals remaining open, you name it.
Abzug: gave NYC a terrible spokes person at a time when it really needed a great one. When one is going to the federal government for a bail-out, one should do so with hat in hand, and make an appeal to the people. You don’t send a hectoring, arogant loudmouth who had contempt for the very people she was asking to support NYC. She was the personification of what people in the heartland hated about NYC at that time.
Hate to say it but Abzug is also one of my bottom 5. I wrote 100 letters to politicians, newsmen, etc. trying to get help w/ health insurance – she was literally the only person who didn’t respond.
When I was a working girl and riding the train. I’d always check out peoples feet to see if any two people were wearing the same shoes. Never.
I once saw a woman wearing the same blouse as me. She looked better in it 🙁
okay eye crisis averted for now! decided to give it a shot and go to the place in noho i used to go a long time ago before i switched to the place in park slope.. she pulled my file and was like oh yeah we cant order you new contact lenses because you havent had an exam since 2008 so i pouted a little bit and she was like okay just this one time!! turns out the eye exams there are only 125 anyway but i didnt feel like paying for an eye exam too, plus the prescription they have me on record for there seems more accurate (i still had one leftover lens from back then). ordered violet colored lenses cuz i dont like the clear ones.

Blowfish, if you think the president has any meaningful control over the economy I have a bridge to sell you.
I didn’t even know who Abzug was until someone mentioned her the other day and I googled her. There, I said it.
Sigh. Lech, you believe Bush had no connection to the recession?

“Late 70s inflation/stagnation worse than the recession Bush left us”
Sigh. Slopefarm, I usually trust you to be the one who avoids making causal connections like this, but every once in a while you disappoint me.
slopey- Very true about Spitzer. A complete and utter waste.
