“I’m not conversant enough w/ the rest but the UN didn’t think there were WMD & neither did Colin Powell.â€
Powell absolutely did at first. I remember thinking, well, if CP says they’re there, I believe it. He later found out the intelligence was wrong and felt horribly about it.
Do you agree with the following statement which has been tested throughout history:
“A people get the government they deserve.”
It once a succinct evaluation of the bloody history of humanity and an indictment of those that would allow too much power in the hands of too few.
While you condemn the elected US leadership from the convenience of it’s protection, please bear in mind that this right is not available to most of the planet.
Well obviously the whole WMD thing was a pretext. I mean, duh. But what’s so wrong with going to war for oil? Serious question. I don’t think it’s so wrong.
I can respect folks thinking that Iraq was a bad decision, even if I don’t agree. I can also respect someone thinking that Bush was inept or wrong-headed, even if I don’t agree. Do you think, however, that you are doing your cause any good by making him out to be a malicious mass-murderer, and comparing him to Hitler? It’s fun to kick around ideas on the OT, but you are talking some serious $hit there.
Legion – Take US & UK off that list – both are known to have made it up out of whole cloth – Blair brown-nosing Bush. I’m not conversant enough w/ the rest but the UN didn’t think there were WMD & neither did Colin Powell.
legion- all that so-called intelligence was shared and a lot of it not vetted. Such as the aluminum tubes debacle. And don’t you think there are plenty of other countries working on WMDs? You think it was only Iraq? Saddam was a failure, especially after the Gulf War- yet we continue to look only at Iraq and not at the very real, much more dangerous adversaries we have. The reasons we invaded were never real.
“Those who just fell for it and ran with it are better referred to as ass clowns.”
It was the job of the administration to fact check and cross check this “intelligence.” They didn’t because they really weren’t interested in whether or not it was true. It was all a marketing ploy to sell the Iraq War. Yes they are ass clowns. Murdering, lying ass clowns.

A question for Biff and Bxgrl.

biff and arkady,
What is more likely?
That British, French, Russian, Israeli and American intelligence was wrong
or
That they were indeed right and the WMD’s were moved.
At least one Iraqi general says the later.

I say the point is obviously moot now, but I will not be surprised if one day twenty years from now, Syria comes clean.
