  1. benson- I didn’t compare him to Hitler. No one compares to Hitler- and I don’t mean that as a compliment.

You won’t hear me call Bush Sr. a mass murderer. There are wars that need to be fought- that’s the reality of this world. But the invasion of Irag was way off base. they had nothing to do with 9-11, they did not attack us. All the intelligence in the world will not make the invasion a reasonable action because all it means is Bus was even more of a hypocrite than we know. Because there are plenty of other countries with heinous leadership and WMDs being created and we are not even thinking of attacking them. Spread democracy? What garbage- how many other countries would love to be democracies and did we invade them to “spread democracy?” No, we did not.

So yes, I have no problem call Bush a mass murderer because he invaded Iraq. The cost in lives of that invasion far exceed anything Saddam ever did.

  2. “Do you think, however, that you are doing your cause any good by making him out to be a malicious mass-murderer, and comparing him to Hitler?”

I’m under no illusion that I’ll change any minds here with my opinions. I’m just calling it like I see it. The US government plain and simply engaged in mass murder in Iraq (and in many countries throughout the 20th century before that). Bush et.al. should be tried for war crimes. Of course, that will never happen…but it should.

  3. “yet we continue to look only at Iraq and not at the very real, much more dangerous adversaries we have”

    bxgrl,
We went into Afghanistan first and we’re still there.
Obviously this President has intelligence that tells him there is a need to continue the fight there.
And I’d hardly say Obama is part of the Bush-Rove-Cheney team.
We continue to fight there and Pakistan and around the world.
There continues to be a single, well defined threat to the US: Radical Islam.

Look at the Christmas bombing in Egypt most recently.
Iraq started as a provocation by Saddam and ended as another front in the same war we’ve been fighting since Jimmy Carter. Radical Islam.
You, Biff and Arkady are losing the forest through the trees.

  4. ““I’m not conversant enough w/ the rest but the UN didn’t think there were WMD”

This is a factually false statement. Iraq was under UN-ordered sanctions prior to the war precisely because it was believed that he had WMD’s that he had not turned over.

ENY, Giants considering 2nd go-around with Burress when he is released on Jun 6. I like it as he would help with red-zone scoring.

I like it, too. He’ll be motivated to prove he can still play, and as this season proved, you can never have too many WRs.

  6. JB – I felt as you did/do about CP but he had serious doubts going to the UN & tried to delay until he could verify – he wasn’t as compelling as he can be because of his uncertainty.

  7. “Do you agree with the following statement which has been tested throughout history:

“A people get the government they deserve.””

No, I don’t necessarily believe that. There is very little choice in government for Americans. They have a choice between two parties, which really have far less difference between them than most people believe or understand. It is virtually impossible for a viable third alternative to emerge without getting quashed by the big two. As I’ve said before, the so called “liberal left wing” end of the spectrum is no different than the so called “hawks” or conservatives; only different in rhetoric and tactics.

  8. “Well obviously the whole WMD thing was a pretext. I mean, duh. But what’s so wrong with going to war for oil? Serious question. I don’t think it’s so wrong.”
We’ve done it before & will do it again. What’s wrong particularly in this instance is that there was a target we should’ve gone after but neglected. Getting Bin Laden immediately would have left us much better postioned for the rest of the agenda.

  9. “What is more likely?
That British, French, Russian, Israeli and American intelligence was wrong
    or
That they were indeed right and the WMD’s were moved.”

I believe the former has proved to be more likely.

Btw, ass clowns is my new favourite term. Thanks Jessi!
