Official Policy, especially in international relations doesn’t mean we actually take steps to implement it. Our official policy was the end of communism but we weren’t picking up weapons and marching on Moscow. We have lots of policies that are unrealistic to implement but they are there as statements of intent, not necessarily action. Same for Iraq.
Scott, with this kind of snow storm, it’s a matter of convenience (ie nothing better to do) and inconvenience (ie dont want to go outside to get new supply of condoms).
Has the consolation between snowstorms/blackouts ever been proven?
I know the connection is made a lot, but I would think that with modern birth control the bump will be tiny if at all.
Ah, yes, Benson, but what we found out in the end, the REALITY, is that Saddam Hussein did NOT have WMD. He was playing a little game with his neighbors — pretending he had them, when in fact they were destroyed as required by the First Gulf War. International experts did NOT have the intelligence to prove that he had WMD and in reality, the process which was put in place – a series of UN inspections which never was completed (and which would have PROVED the fact that there were no weapons) was never allowed to be the discovery mechanism which would have proved he was faking it.
I have to thank you for sending me that link to the law signed by Clinton, indicating that the policy of the US was to remove Saddam Hussein. So that was in fact the official policy but without some other reason, i.e., WMD, Bush and co knew that that war would never have been approved and waged.
“We urge you, after consulting with Congress, and consistent with the U.S. Constitution and laws, to take necessary actions (including, if appropriate, air and missile strikes on suspect Iraqi sites) to respond effectively to the threat posed by Iraq’s refusal to end its weapons of mass destruction programs.” — From a letter signed by Joe Lieberman, Dianne Feinstein, Barbara A. Milulski, Tom Daschle, & John Kerry among others on October 9, 1998, sent to then-President Clinton

People born on Sept. 11th are the best people on earth.
Biff,
do you own or have recently watched Manufacturing Consent, the documentary on Noam Chomsky?
