bottom line,
biff, arkady and bxgrl,
think Iraq was the wrong move.
Fair enough, but
I say this,
we do not know the consequences for our nation,
and we won’t know them until perhaps the next generation.
You say we are not demonstrably safer now?
prove it.
I hear you,
but what I am saying is this:
I’m a practical person,
I realize the limitations of our government as
much as I recognize that it is the result of 200 years of political evolution.
For the most part, at least,
we can say that our government has upheld a peaceful transition of power for all of that history (except for 1860’s) and been accountable to the people.
We are not perfect, by any definition.
But we haven’t elected a government which tortures, maims or terrorizes its citizens.
Other nations have,
and I guess what I am saying is that it is an ugly realizaton that sometimes the people themselves are complicit in their own demise.
you and bxgrl like to point out the flaws in our system,
but for what its worth, this system has managed to work for its people for at least a hundred years.
What do despots around the world have to show for it?
“Official Policy, especially in international relations doesn’t mean we actually take steps to implement it. Our official policy was the end of communism but we weren’t picking up weapons and marching on Moscow.”
“Biff,
do you own or have recently watched Manufacturing Consent, the documentary on Noam Chomsky?”
As a matter of fact, yes and funny you should ask. I saw it when it first came out and watched it once again over these past holidays. I have it downloaded. It’s phenomenal.

Speaking of politics, my boss reports seeing Sonia Sotomayor last week at Trader Joe’s.
Scott – I think modern BC is on the decline. I know very few ladies that continue to use. It makes chicks nuts!
“This is THE worst raunch hour EVER!”
Hey, I wanted to discuss high heels and lingerie.
