  1. Seriously? You implied it was fallacious to state that the US government has been responsible for millions of civilian deaths oversees and when I do that with just one example, you shoot back with the equivalent of “yeah well, look at what the REALLY bad guys did”. So it’s ok if I murder one person since there are serial killers out there who have murdered over 20?

    biff,
I didn’t say I agreed with your numbers,
I took them at face value.
I know millions died during several wars that the US was involved in but you are the one that attributes them
to some organized attempt by the US to kill innocents.
I am saying that war is indeed hell.
That the millions who die in those war are often innocents.
The wars in South East Asia were part of a larger war for dominebnce over that area by two conflicting ideologies, one side would inevitably win.
Do you think that the US was going to sit back and watch as the ideology of communism was being spread by force throughout the world?
I don’t see why it surprises you that the US set itself up as the counterweight to communist efforts which had been building for decades.
To now say that the US by it’s own accord decided to kill millions of innocents is to set up half an equation.

  2. Be afraid, ET. Be very afraid 🙂

Legion- biff is right. What does it matter if Stalin or Mao did it more? We did it too- maybe not as despotically (arguable), or to the same extent, but by treating dead civilians as so much “collateral damage”, we are no better. At least Stalin and Mao made no pretensions as to who they were and what they wanted. We try to sugarcoat it by saying its for the spread of democratic ideals.

  3. The women I know on birth control do not seem to be any more less moody than other women.

My wife is on birth control for hormone regulation (I had a vasectomy), and she seems to be a bit less moody when on the hormones than when not – she has gone for several months at a time off of them.

I wish I could find some good stats out there. My 2 minute Google search did not turn up much.

I do know that there was a series of new stories/articles a few years ago about women using birth control medicine to eliminate periods or a year or more at a time, but I have no idea how that translated into real world numbers.

  4. OK, well, the crowd is liquidating commodities big time — happy days and all. I don’t think the gold rally is done but if you are long other gold assets, it’s worth a flyer.
