Anyone can change their name when they grow up. My daughter’s middle name is her Chinese name. When she was in 5th grade she decided she wanted me to call her by it, but I gave up because (of course!) she never looked up when I called her by it.
no lech, its okay- i like the honest feedback. besides, my husband likes that one, and altho it did come out of a book, there was something about it that made me unsure. but i do tend to like yuppie/waspy names even tho we’re not in that category. in fact, last name will be jewish.

Oh and my maternal grandmother was Ruth. My cousin was named for her, Ruth Andrea. Because she was born so soon after my grandmother died (Jewish tradition; my niece was born a year after my mother died), her mother/my aunt called her Randi. When she got married she changed her name to Randi.
My kids all have very traditional names. The next name on the list for a girl was Catherine (Kate) and for a boy was Calvin (after my favorite us president).
Rob, do you honestly think anyone on the OT is going to take your advice about naming a baby? Maybe she should name the baby Rob, or Robi since it’s a girl.
or how about, i know might sound SHOCKING to some, but Anonymous Crotchfruit and let them name their own self? i dont think people should have the rights to name their children, except for last name i guess and legal reasons, but let them choose their own first name at least. growing up i was “bobby” and it caused me to be depressed. i would never have picked that name, EVER! i mean i like Robert/Rob but it’s not a name i would have chosen if i could, which is why i’ve been Beagle, Butterfly, Watercress, etc.
name your kid wrong and they will hate you for life.
My grandmothers were Edith & Ida.
