NYE will be quiet this year. Will have folks over NYD for Young Frankenstein and duck fat fries. No drinking till “I lose 15 lbs or find new job” starts 1-2-11.
Chains are useless once you get more than a few inches of snow on the ground. I remember many trip driving in the Sierra where they closed the roads to all cars (all wheel drives/SUV/chained tires) because they’re only effective to a certain point.
If you want to see real snow removal, go to Montreal. (I’m sure biff will agree).
They don’t just hang some stinkin’ plow on some stinkin’ garbage truck.
No, they have a whole system. There will be a crew of different vehicles and people. They’ll clear the street with big equipment, then they’ll have tow trucks pull the cars away from the curb, have a small backhoe remove snow, then put the cars back. Meanwhile big honking bulldozer picks up snow and puts it in dump trucks, where it gets hauled off and dumped in the river. Just found some pix, in fact…
I’ll be in Philly NYE. Every year we go to the local greek BYOB. the food is wonderful. There’s usualy about 8 of us and the menu is the standard regular menu, none of this two seating crap with inflated prices.
New years Day is the real fun…barhopping all day and the Mummers Parade.
Weather should be great this year…mid 40s looks like
dibs, price of good wine dropped 30-40% post-lehman (has recovered back and more by now). So I took advantage to lay in some stuff.

My Montreal friend tells me that most people garage their cars for the winter in December.
“1988 Haut Brion!!!!!! And you people thought I was the elitist asshat!!!!!???????”

I thought that some of the trucks melted the snow and drained it into sewers. Did I dream that?
