  1. My daughter and I did babysitting jobs together for New Year’s Eve for several years. Some years we made nice money and used it for a special treat. Last year she got her own babysitting job and I went out with a friend to the movies. Anyone need a babysitter, young and/or old?

  2. no shortage of tourist/daytrippers going thru G.Central. So don’t think city is missing out.
Subway ran fine. Why would anyone drive car today anyway. If you dig out and move it , you’re not going to get a space when return home.
Go with the flow. Quit complaining about everything. Enjoy it. Enjoy life.
If every day things were same, would be pretty boring existence.

  3. DCB – ha! well one of them was a few years ago my husband and threw a party at our house and we just had a great time with all our guests.
Another time – well let’s just say I was single and really was “free” with myself and had a great NYE then stretched to the next day
    I don’t remeber the other time…..

Fsrg – wait, I thought you loved Bike lanes????

RF: – the problem with hiring private contractors to come into the city to help tow cars and buses etc is that the private contractors know the city will take 6 months to a year to pay them! – so unless the city is willing to pay cash these guys know better and they ain’t showing up for $200 they will see in August…..

  4. Thanks for the invitation, Denton. My sweater will stay with me at all times!

Very interesting about the pricing. Once I had some Silver Oak Cabernet (that’s good, right?) and that was tasty but didn’t seem worth it.

  5. Lechacal, haven’t you been a parent long enough to know about the best-laid plans??? The expensive ticket purchase spoiled by a sick kid (or 2 or 3!) or the kid who has great expectations for something and then falls asleep as you are on the way?

You could certainly come home tomorrow and cab it home and go back the next day for the car. Or you could send wife and kids home in a cab and go to the long-term parking lot yourself and evaluate. If it looks hopeless or you don’t want to be looking for a parking spot in the Slope, you could take the A train from the long-ternm lot to the G at Hoyt-Schermerhorn.

  6. My friend, the French Canadian, will go on for as long as I agree to listen to her. She is an industry colleague and friend and lives in NY most of the time, but has a house in Montreal. The Quebecquois movement has been a disaster for Montreal according to this lady. Her theory is that everyone is inbred and can no longer think. You are divvied up into English and French ancestry and orientation there and she thinks she is being discriminated against since her ancestry is “English-Canadian” though she is a Francophone. Whenever Montreal got its semi-autonomous status, businesses fled to Toronto and now you have a bunch of inbred wierdos.

  7. jeez there is a lot of snow in backyard. I can’t open door to get out there to shovel off roof of sunroom.
Just made it back from upstate. Utica got no snow and Kingston had about 1 foot.

  8. According to the mayor, fewer outside contractors (trucks with plows, front-end loaders, tow trucks, etc.) responded to the call from the city. Maybe because it was Christmas weekend? And they didn’t declare a state of emergency because all the cars parked on emergency streets would have to move and it would have been worse for so many drivers to be out and about looking for other parking spots. He made the call for tow trucks to hire on and remove all the abandoned cars.

  9. jester…I’ve seen conductors throw people off the train. Usually after the passenger swears at them. It would seem that they really don’t have the right to do this but since they are their own police, and they are entitled, union government employees, there don’t seem to be ANY rules.

Why should they be able to throw someone off for free speech??? I know of an older woman who would not give up a seat when she was told not to sit in a phone booth years back…there were no other seats and they threw her off. Of course some local cops or worse, Amtrak police, meet them at the station and enforce it.

it’s total bullshit unless omeone is out of control or gets violent.
