  1. re: churches

the one near my grandmother down in south carolina furnished her apartment, no questions asked and asked nothing in return. that was very nice of them. of course my grandmother then made fun of the people who donated all that stuff.

  2. Tithing is not a bad think. A church has to be maintained liked any other building. What the church does with the surplus, is the question. If they are running after-school programs, ect. What I don’t like to see are the preachers who tell people they need to sow thee seeds by giving and the he/she is driving a luxury car and living in a mansion. I went to my friends church and the minister had on so much jewelry he was blinding me. He threaten to lock the door until the congration came up with a certain amount of money. I told my friend if he did that I would sue for kidnapping. I was never invited back.

  3. BSM- Many churches and their congregations do wonderful charitable work. I’ve seen how Concord works, for instance. I think most churches do important, necessaary charity work, as do many Jewish congregations. The ones that bother me are the extremist ones who use charity as a mean to pressure people into joining. If you don’t, they treat you like dirt. I’ve had that lovely experience several times.
