I know/knew a lot of older black folks, American and Carribbean and they were brought up to tithe 10% and save 10% and the fomular seemed to work. These women lived modestly, owned a property (usually more than one house) and when they died left their children pretty good inheritances. Most of them were not college educated and had blue collar jobs.
bfarwell, amazing. Well, we knew they didn’t put any real umph into fixing anything. I’ll pass the info along to our person who is in touch with the realtor and the mortgage co. that owns the building. Thanks a bunch.
I had a friend (forget which denomination of Christian) who with her family tithed 20% of their income. I thought that was a little extreme, but there it is. They were interesting, both PKs, and very devout, but interestingly non-preachy about it, so we got along well.
Hi EVeryone!
Merry Christmas! It feels sooo good to be home! – am firing up the oven to start cookie baking now so I have mini-gifts for my family tomorrow at my moms
Gotta wrap some gifts

I do think that charitable contributions by churchgoers include a lot of money for the church itself, which may or may not signify good works.
Cobble, what’s a PK?
rf- just read the Krugman article- great piece. Interesting how the facts are a “little” different than our republican friends have been claiming.

I think it is. I find John Stossel’s voice annoying
