wife looked to be that subserviant housewife type but I found out too later her round-eye mindset – ie she works hence I’ve got to do AT LEAST half of the house duties
Lech, I think that model is a bit outdated from what I’ve observed first hand and with other dads like you. We may have experienced it had we done the mail order bride thing and brought a wife over from a less progressive country.
bxgrl, the scenario you described is pretty much exactly how things went down with my parents. I think I was born in the wrong era. My dad was a hard worker and great provider, but damn, he had it much easier than I (and most modern dads) when it comes to doing things on the home front!!
“didnt world war II give us cheap housing loans and the notion that women should have to pull their weight (financially) in a marriage by getting jobs ”
rob- women pulled their weight by taking care of the kids and making a home for the husband. Try being a housewife for a day- getting up at the crack of dawn with the kids, cooking for everyone 3 meals a day, cleaning the house, errands, laundry- it was a 7 day a week, 24 hour a day job. When my father got home from work, he sat down with the paer, ate dinner, watched TV and went to sleep. My mother then had to clean up dinner, wash the dishes, make sure my sister and I were doing our homework and got ready for bed, and prepared for the day ahead.
The lifestyle you see on tv is nowhere near the reality for real housewives.

What the hell does Rob know about housekeeping? He can’t even deal with his laundry!

bxgrl, could you please inform my wife about the how housewifery works? It would be nice if we could move to the model you identified.
